Preaching Lab: Developing the Creative Voice in Preaching (Chapel)
Preaching, both in preparation and delivery, is an act of creation, of creativity. In most instances, however, pastors are trained exclusively through an academic framework. While academic disciplines and practices of preparation are vital, are they enough? Join us for a discussion about creativity and art and how they might intersect with preaching.

Preaching Lab: Homiletics 2.0 – Preaching as the Work of the Whole People of God (What Survivor and America's Got Talent can teach us about Preaching) (Rm. 304)
In the world of Web 2.0, we are no longer content to be consumers of information and culture; we have become contributors and producers of information and culture. This shift that has captivated the technological world (reality TV, the blogosphere, and social media) has significant implications for contemporary preaching. In this collaborative workshop (participants are invited to contribute to the content), we will explore and compile practices that are designed to help move our congregations from a performative homiletic to a more participatory homiletic and move our people beyond biblical literacy to biblical fluency.

Preaching Lab: Shaky Bridge Preaching - Sermonic Moments That Build & Encourage Leaders (Library)
There are untapped leaders among us. This session surveys preaching methods that create open pathways challenging you to influence, to build, and to encourage those around you towards becoming leaders, especially those who have been overlooked. We will use "bridge preaching" as a powerful metaphor to communicate the utility of preaching to move believers from a place of inactivity to a place of leadership influence in their church, community, or workplace. Journey with us and let’s build a preaching bridge.

Preaching Lab: Preaching Hope to Youth and Young Adults (Rm. 122)
Young people are not immune to the troubled times. Technology brings both incredible advances, but also new ways to spread political polarization, abuse, bullying, and even death to the point youth suicide rates have increased dramatically since 1999. Youth and young adults alike wonder where God is in the middle this vision of a predominantly negative, threatening world. Youth need Jesus’ message of hope in their lives with fresh imagination.

Whether through rhetorical structures, or actual visual images, preaching must communicate the imaginative hope of the Kingdom of God. This panel seeks a conversation on how this form of preaching can happen to inspire and motivate youth and young adults to live imaginative, hopeful, lives.

Preaching Lab: Preaching the Lectionary - The Story of God, The Story of Us (Library)
As we seek to preach hope in troubled times, the Lectionary can guide us through seasons of disorientation and provide a theological and ecclesiological orientation for both preachers and their people. Through preaching the Lectionary, we find that our communities are grounded in the whole breadth of scripture rather than verse-bytes and pat answers, we find that we are guided by the church calendar rather than national calendar, and we find that our story (even this very present moment) is caught up into the whole story of God.

Alicia McClintic is the lead pastor of Hayward Church of the Nazarene, a multi-cultural, multi-congregational church on the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has created a variety of resources to shepherd communities through the liturgical year, to cultivate holistic spiritual formation practices, and to support and advance women in ministry.
